OVERVIEW
1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men will be sexually assaulted at least once in their lifetime. While most people are concerned for their safety they do not have a plan in place for when an emergency happens. My teams’ challenge was designing an app that created a safety plan and offered solutions to diffuse a potential emergency.
I used extensive research to find what safety issues are facing most individuals. Then further researched into what systems women are especially using to keep themselves and their friends safe.

Research
With research goals in mind, we gathered contextual information about the scope of whose safety is being threatened and how often it is occurring. I also wanted to see what tools users are already using on their phone
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Findings
– Most safety apps are very expensive
– GPS tracking is an top feature
– Other safety solutions are overlooked
USER INTERVIEWS

Findings
– Important features are GPS tracking to allow friends to see location. A chat feature to send dates information. Recordings to simulate a speaker phone conversations to diffuse a situation.
– Being discreet is key, if the aggressor knows a the victim is calling for help the situation tends to escalate
– Users don’t know where emergency service locations are
Design and User testing
A/B Testing
We created 2 seperate prototypes using the same user flow. So we could test users, and see which features on each version they liked or disliked.
Findings:
– Users preferred over-all look of Version B
– Users found colours and menu confusing to navigate in Version A
– Users liked the social feature in User A
Latest Iteration
FOR THE FUTURE
– Do another round of user testing
– Build section for messaging
– Build section for sending date’s information and calming games
– Double check app for accessibility
